POWER SUBSTATION DESIGN
Our team designs green and brown field substations ranging from 5kV to 345kV. We provide multi-discipline design in 3D to provide proven solutions to expedite construction. We design substations for heavy industrial, data centers, higher education, steel and aluminum factories, petrochemical industry, and crypto currency mining customers. We work with several electrical utility companies and understand their design requirements, allowing our team to facilitate the design process.
POWER DISTRIBUTION DESIGN
We design power infrastructure for new and retrofit upgrades including power distribution centers, MV/LV switchgear, unit substations, motor control centers, cabling, duct banks, grounding, and electrical room layout per required code and standards. We bring many years of experience and expertise to the customer with switchgear upgrades and retrofit installations.
POWER SYSTEM RELAYING
We are proficient in replacing vintage electromechanical relays with modern microprocessor based relays including Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), ABB, and GE relays. We develop and program the relay setting files along with developing one-lines, three-lines, protection schemes, AC/DC Schematics, wiring drawings, and communication settings including IEC 61850, goose messaging and SEL Real Time Automation Controller (RTAC).
POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS
FST Engineering performs power system analysis including short circuit, protective device coordination, NFPA 70E/IEEE 1584 arc flash, load flow, power factor analysis, harmonic analysis, motor starting, IEEE 80 ground grid analysis, Neher-McGrath underground duct bank ampacity calculations, and other complex engineering analysis. We own and utilize SKM Power Tools, ETAP, and other power system software.
ENGINEERING SERVICES DURING CONSTRUCTION
We provide many services during construction including vendor and/or contractor bid reviews, vendor drawings review, relay programming, factory acceptance testing of major equipment including transformer and switchgear, review/witness field testing and provide summarized results in report format and commissioning services.
We are recognized in the industry and belong to many professional societies and follow all appropriate standards.
We own and maintain industry recognized electrical power software including SKM PowerTools (Dapper, Captor, A-Fault, Arc Flash, and Transient Motor Starting), ETAP (Underground Raceway and IEEE 80 Grounding Analysis), Autodesk Suite, Substation Design Suite, and others. Our power system experience allows us to optimize our analysis methods and improve reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements.
